My first novel was Not A Penny More, Not a Penny Less, the story of four young men who, between them, lose a fortune, but they decide to steal it back from the man who stole it from them.
But they have to go to the exact penny, otherwise it would be stealing.
I wrote the book in desperation. I was deeply in debt. And of course, I thought it would go to number one on the New York Times Bestsellers List, and The Sunday Times Bestsellers List.
In fact, it only sold 3000 copies in hardback, but 27 million of you have enjoyed it since, so I hope you will.
