Jeffrey tells us about his latest book, The Sins of the Father – part two of the extraordinary Clifton Chronicles.
Most of my books are international. I have a love of America. Fascination for America. I have had since I was a child.
And so there’s a tendency for me as an Englishman to want to write about my own country and a tendency to find any excuse to get to America as in Kane and Abel.
But with this one, it came fortuitously in the sense that here he is going to war. The ship is sunk and he lands up on American shores with a false name.
Harry Clifton is not Harry Clifton when he arrives in New York. And Lieutenant Bradshaw is arrested for murder. So there I am in New York. But Emma is in Oxford. Giles is in Bristol.
Hugo, the Wicked Hugo, is in London.
And so it gives me an opportunity to move in many directions. And then of course war is declared. So I can go to Europe as well.
